Why made live?

Most sleep sounds are recordings on a loop. Light sleepers hear the seam, the same wave or the same raindrop coming round again. And a recording can’t move further away or slow down as you drift off.

Soothr works out every sound as it plays, from gentle maths and a little controlled chance. Nothing repeats, everything can be adjusted, and the sound can quietly change over the night.

Every sound is created on your phone as you listen. Nothing is recorded, so there is no seam to hear and nothing ever repeats.

Follows you down.

Drift makes the sound a little darker, slower and softer over the first 20 minutes, while you fall asleep.

Fades out on its own.

Play for 15 to 90 minutes, or until you stop. The ending is a long, slow fade, then the app stops and your phone can rest.

Tuned by feel.

Rain, further away. Waves, slower. Chords, darker. A few gentle controls instead of thirty sliders.

Music tuned to 432 Hz.

The chords, strings and flute are tuned to A = 432 Hz, a little lower than standard pitch. Prefer 440 Hz? It’s one tap in Settings.

The screen dims itself, the buttons are big enough to find half asleep, and there are no notifications, streaks or ads.
